Aubrey Catrone

Owner & Consultant

Aubrey is an international art historian, appraiser, and provenance researcher. She earned an MA in History of Art from University College London, specializing in the documented histories of art objects. With an art gallery and academic research background, Catrone founded Proper Provenance, LLC to provide her clients with the tools, not only to historically contextualize art but also to shed light on attribution and legal title within the international art market.

She has dedicated her career to archival and historical research, editing, and writing, while simultaneously generating expert knowledge in the field of art crime and cultural heritage protection.

Catrone holds two postgraduate certifications: the Association for Research into Crimes Against Art’s (ARCA) “Art Crime and Cultural Heritage Protection” (2015) as well as ARCA and The Holocaust Art Restitution Project’s (HARP) “Provenance and the Challenges of Recovering Looted Assets” (2017).
